About

Hi. My name is Kevin. I’m a human, like you probably are, and this is my blog.

I put things here that I’ve written at some time in my life or another. Many of them are stories. Some might be poems or songs. Others might just be drunken ravings about social justice or various artisanal cheeses.

You’ve heard of creative outlets, yeah? That’s what this is, for me. It’s as many outlets as I can fit onto a page.

The name of the site–it’s the title to a thesis. What does insanity mean to you? Off the cuff, you might recite that quote about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. It’s a cute quote, but it’s not really accurate.

Insanity doesn’t describe a mental state. It describes a legal state. Psychiatrists once used it synonymously with psychosis, which is an affliction of the mind. But, as we’ll soon see together, words change all the time. Now it refers to being free of legal responsibility due to the unsoundness of one’s mind. The mental state is a limiting condition, not the actual state of interest. In a manner of speaking, insanity is a special freedom afforded to slaves. Normalcy makes us responsible. Insanity makes us infallible. At least, that’s the law’s stance.

You might disagree with that thinking, and you have every right to. But for right now, you’re on this blog. You’re participating in my research into insanity, the beautiful paradox. You’re an accomplice.

Enjoy the show.
